MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Dec. 5, 2023) -- Playing in their final home game of the 2023 calendar year, the Pfeiffer women's basketball team held Saint Augustine's to just 14.3 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-21 shooting performance, but fell 73-46 to the visitors at home in Merner Gym on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Miya Horton led the Falcons (2-6) with seven points and three steals. Junior Alexis Bynum also tacked on 10 points and two steals while freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali helped out with eight points.
Led by sophomore Hannah Isley's three offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 20 boards that resulted in 13 second chance points.
Pfeiffer was able to force 19 Saint Augustine's turnovers, turning those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Horton's three steals led the way for Pfeiffer.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Pfeiffer then started off the second quarter by going on a 7-0 run to narrow its deficit to 19-13. Saint Augustine's responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Falcons trailing 33-24 heading into halftime.
Saint Augustine's continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 47-28 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Isley, to trim its deficit to 47-33 with 2:03 to go in the third. Saint Augustine's countered and stretched its lead to 53-35 heading into the fourth. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.
Pfeiffer could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 73-46. Pfeiffer fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 11 points.
