Pfeiffer Softball Splits Saturday Competition With Ranked Opponents

Virginia Beach, Va. (March 11, 2023) – The Pfeiffer softball team split a pair of gams with ranked opponents on Saturday, falling to No. 2 Trine, 9-1 and winning over No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan, 6-5.

How it Happened – Game 1 vs. No. 3 Trine
Third-ranked Trine University scored five runs in the first inning before Pfeiffer's Emma Bullin (Ararat, N.C.) would deliver an RBI groundout in the fifth to make it 5-1.

The Thunder would add two more in their half of the fifth inning on an RBI double to go up 7-1.  Another two runs crossed for Trine in the sixth inning after an RBI double followed by a wild pitch that would score another run, ending the game at 9-1.

How it Happened – Game 2 vs. No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan
Pfeiffer's Kenzie Lyall (Sparta, N.C.) belted a three-run home run in the eighth inning to put Pfeiffer up 6-3. 

VWU would score on an RBI double to pull to 6-4 and would get another run to cross on a fielder's choice to close to 6-5.  Pfeiffer would then get the final two outs on a pair of infield pop-up's to secure the win.

The win marks the fourth win over ranked opponents this season for Pfeiffer.
