Pfeiffer Women's Tennis Team Off to an Impressive 9-0 Start
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 16, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University women's tennis team is off to the best start in the program's Division III era, as the Falcons have bolted to a 9-0 record in dual matches this season, including a 7-0 mark this spring. Previously, the Falcons won two dual matches over Division II Winston-Salem State and in a nonconference match against USA South opponent Salem College this past September.
Freshman
Riley Isley (China Grove, N.C.) has been impressive in her first collegiate season, as she has a 7-4 record in dual matches and has a 10-1 mark in doubles matches with teammate
Elithe Hudson (Albemarle, N.C.). Isley was tabbed the USA South Rookie of the Week on March 6 after earning a 3-1 singles mark and a 4-0 doubles record for the Falcons. In singles, Isley's wins came at the number-three position over opposition from Johnson & Wales, Penn State-Behrend, and Marietta. In doubles, Isley teamed with Hudson to grab wins over Johnson & Wales, Maryville, Penn State-Behrend, and Marietta.Â
Not to be outdone, sophomore
Megan Rekieta (Lubbock, Texas), was named USA South Player of the Week on March 6 after posting a 2-2 singles mark and a 4-0 doubles record all at the top-position. In singles, Rekieta earned wins over opponents from Johnson & Wales and Maryville. In doubles, she teamed with
Alison Sloop (Rockwell, N.C.) to grab wins over Johnson & Wales, Maryville, Penn State-Behrend, and Marietta.
The double duo of Sloop and Rekieta also earned the USA South Doubles Team of the Week after going 4-0 at the number-one position. The team's wins came over opposition from Johnson & Wales, Maryville, Penn State-Behrend, and Marietta.
Sloop and Rekieta earned the honor for a second time this season on March 13 after going 3-0 record last week at the number-one position. The team's wins came over opposition from Marietta, Messiah, and Catholic during the matches in Hilton Head.
While in the Low Country for spring break matches, Pfeiffer grabbed wins over Marietta (7-2), Messiah (6-3) and Catholic (6-3).
In singles play, Pfeiffer had three players go undefeated with 3-0 marks., with Hudson winning at No. 2 singles, Sloop winning at No. 4 and freshman
Emily Moore (Denton, N.C.) winning at No. 6.
In doubles play, Sloop and Rekieta own a perfect 9-0 record at the  No. 1 position while Hudson and Isley have teamed at the No. 2 position and own an 8-1 mark.
Pfeiffer will look to stay unbeaten on Saturday, March 18 when they travel to Staunton, Va. for a 1:00 p.m. USA South match with Mary Baldwin.
