No. 12 Pfeiffer Softball Shuts Out N.C. Wesleyan in USA South Openers
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 25, 2023) – The 12
th ranked Pfeiffer University softball team won their USA South openers over visiting N.C. Wesleyan by scores of 3-0 and 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field

How it Happened – Game 1
Pfeiffer sophomore
Emma Chopko (Mooresville, N.C.) laced an RBI single through the left side of the Bishops' infield to stake the Falcons to the early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Pfeiffer would go up 2-0  later in the fourth inning after throwing error from the NCWU third baseman allowed pinch runner
Kaylee McCarthy to score.
Sophomore
Gracie Griffin made it 3-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI single that scored
Kyndell Warren.
Pfeiffer pitcher
Kenzi Lyall (Sparta, N.C.) would earn the complete game shutout win, scattering six hits while striking out four Bishop batters, improving her season pitching record to 8-6 overall.
Game 2
The Falcons scored one run in each of the first three innings to claim the early 3-0 lead.
Lyall got things started in the first inning when she laced an RBI single to left field. Warren would then single through the left side in the second to put Pfeiffer up 2-0 while a bases loaded walk issued to
Jaci Cook made it 3-0 in the third inning.
Emma Chopko would launch her second home run of the season, a solo shot to center field, to put Pfeiffer up 4-0 in the sixth inning. Warren would then make it 5-0 with an RBI double to center field later in the inning.
Right-hander
Kali Morton (6-2) also tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just two NCWU hits, while striking out nine batters in the win.
Up Next
The Falcons will hit the road for their first USA South trip of the season on Tuesday, March 28 when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a doubleheader with William Peace.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
