No. 7 Lynchburg Drops Pfeiffer Baseball 12-4
Lynchburg, Va. (April 5, 2023) – Seventh-ranked Lynchburg took down Pfeiffer University 12-4 in a nonconference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.
The Basics
The Falcons would gain the early lead over the nationally-ranked Hornets in the first inning off the bat of
Christian Ezzell, as he hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed
Zach Ferrell to score.
Lynchburg responded in the third inning on an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1, however, Pfeiffer responded with two runs in the fourth inning, with
C.J. Acosta scoring from third on a wild pitch.
Cory Lackey would then deliver a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed
Jiwon Yun to score.
Lynchburg scored three in the fifth inning to take the 4-3 lead, but in the sixth inning,
Jake Brown would hit an RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 4-4.
Lynchburg would retake the lead 5-4 lead in the sixth inning and would put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to provide the 12-4 final.
Offensively, Ferrell, Essell and Wood would get two hits each on the day, with Essell and Brown getting one RBI each.
Pfeiffer pitcher
Jake Blevins would throw five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five Hornet batters.Â
Chris Loreto would get tagged with the loss, as he pitched 1.2 inning while allowing three runs on two hits.
