Pfeiffer Softball Sweeps Greensboro to Capture USA South Championship
Misenheimer, N.C. (May 12, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University softball team swept visiting Greensboro College to capture the 2023 USA South Softball Championship on a warm Friday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.

How it Happened – Game 1
Pfeiffer used their power in game one, getting on the board in the first inning via an
Emma Chopko (Mooresville, N.C.) two-run homer that put the Falcons up 2-0. In the second, she would hit a three-run bomb to center field that put the Falcons up 5-0.
Later in the inning
Alyssa Broaddus (Mechanicsville, Va.) delivered an RBI double down the left field line that allowed
Gracie Griffin to trot home, boosting the Falcons lead to 6-0.
Kenzi Lyall (Sparta, N.C.) then belted her 10
th homer of the year in the third inning, a two-run blast, that gave Pfeiffer the 8-0 lead.
Greensboro tallied three runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-3, but graduate student
Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.) hit an RBI single to right center field that allowed Chopko to score to put Pfeiffer up 9-3.
Senior
Kyndell Warren (Lenoir, N.C.) ripped a single to right field that provided the eventual 10-3 final.
Falcon pitching was stellar in game one, with Lyall earning the win in relief to improve to 13-8 on the season. Starting pitcher
Kali Morton (Mooresville, N.C.) allowed just two hits and struck out three Pride batters while Lyall stuck out a pair of batters, allowing three runs on five hits.
Game 2
Playing as the visiting team in game two, Pfeiffer jumped on Greensboro 3-0 in the third inning. Sophomore
Gracie Griffin hit a two-run double down the left field line to put the Falcins up 2-0.Â
Caiti Mickles followed with a sacrifice bunt that scored Chopko from third.
Two more Falcon runs crossed in the fourth when
Charly Cooper and
Kyndell Warren collected RBI with Cooper's coming on a fielder's choice and Warren delivering a single through the left side of the Pride infield to push the lead to 5-0.
Pfeiffer would go up 6-0 in the sixth inning when Lyall and Cooper executed a double steal, with Cooper scoring.
Falcon pitcher
Kali Morton was masterful in game two, tossing a complete game allowing just three hits while striking out seven Pride batters. The win improves Morton to 19-3 on the season.
