Box Score Pfeiffer Softball Pounds Host Marietta in NCAA Regional Opener
Marietta, Ohio (May 18, 2023) – The Pfeiffer University softball team opened play in the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Regional Tournament with a 13-0 win over host Marietta College on a warm and sunny afternoon in Marietta, Ohio.

How it Happened
The Falcons put up nine runs in the second inning in taking the commanding lead over the host Pioneers. In the frame,
Kenzi Lyall starting things off with a two-RBI double off the center field fence.
After allowing Lyall to advance to third and a walk from
Kyndell Warren put runners on the corners, Marietta was forced to make a pitching change.Â
Emma Chopko then made it 3-0 with a single.
After loading the bases,
Caiti Mickles was issued a bases-loaded walk to push the score to 4-0.
Taylor Parrish and
Emma Bullin each had RBI singles to stake the Falcons to the 6-0 lead. Freshman
Charly Cooper had an RBI single to make it 7-0. Bullin would make it 8-0 on a steal of home and a Pioneer error allowed the score to go to 9-0.
In the third, Marietta was able to get a two-out triple and a walk to put runners on the corners, but a strikeout by
Kali Morton ended the threat.
Pfeiffer would add four more runs in the third inning, with the big hit coming on a two-RBI single from Cooper.
Pfeiffer's
Kali Morton improved her pitching record to 20-3 on the season after throwing a complete game, scattering just two hits on the afternoon while striking out five batters. Graduate student
Sadie Lee and Lyall also saw action in the circle, with each tossing one inning.

Pfeiffer will advance to take on the winner of the other first round game between Rowan and Penn State Berks on Friday morning, May 19 at 11:00 a.m.
Marietta is relegated to playing in an elimination game on Friday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m.
