Misenheimer, N.C. (Sept. 13, 2023) -- The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team got a pair of goals from Mateo Lata in a 5-1 win over Piedmont University on Wednesday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field.
The win improved Pfeiffer's record to 3-1-1 overall while Piedmont dropped to 2-2-1.
How it Happened
Pfeiffer opened the scoring when Lata recorded his second goal of the season in the 16th minute, assisted by Karim Ndiaye.
The Falcons grabbed a 2-0 advantage on a goal from Lata -- his second goal of the season -- in the 18th minute, assisted by Caleb Livengood.
Piedmont closed the gap to 2-1 on Davis Knight's 19th-minute goal.
The Falcons made it a 3-1 lead with a 20th-minute goal from Cade Vanetten, his first goal of the season. Jacob Rocha and Diego Moran assisted the goal.
Pfeiffer increased its lead to make it a 4-1 game on Asuncio Gonzalez's third goal of the season in the 42nd minute.
The Falcons' advantage expanded to 5-1 thanks to a 48th-minute goal from Ndiaye, his second goal of the season. Rocha assisted the goal.
