Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 10, 2024) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team got a 26-point performance from the bench, but fell 86-84 to the Brevard Tornados at home Wednesday night in a USA South game.
The Falcons (4-5, 1-1) had four players score in double figures, led by junior Daymon Beckwith, who had 20 points and two steals. Fellow junior Daniel Fulp tacked on 14 points, six rebounds and three steals and Alex Cunningham chipped in 11 points.
Pfeiffer utilized great ball movement in Wednesday's game, piling up 15 assists on 30 made field goals. Clayton Robinson's six assists were the most for the Falcons and Doug Smith also added four assists of his own.
The Pfeiffer defense was a problem in Wednesday's game, forcing 20 Brevard turnovers while committing 17. Those takeaways turned into 26 points on the other end of the floor. Fulp's three steals led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
After falling behind 37-28, Pfeiffer went on a 7-0 run with 5:40 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Fulp, to narrow its deficit to 37-35. Brevard answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Falcons down 45-40 entering halftime.
Brevard kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 81-75 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Beckwith's three, to shrink the deficit to 81-80 with 2:12 to go in the contest. Brevard responded and outscored the Falcons the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 86-84. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 44 points in the lane.
