MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Jan. 27, 2024) --Miya Horton, Hannah Isley and Alexis Bynum combined to score 36 of Pfeiffer's 45 total points, but the Falcons fell to the Methodist Monarchs 55-45 at home Saturday.
Horton led the Falcons (4-13, 3-9) with 14 points. Isley added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Bynum chipped in as well with 10 points and two steals off the bench. The double-double for Isley was the fifth of her career.
Pfeiffer collected 44 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Methodist's 37, led by Lola Cabiness-Ali's 11 boards. The Falcons also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 16 rebounds into 10 second chance points.
The Pfeiffer defense held Methodist shooters to just 35.4 percent from the field, including 24 percent from three-point range. The Falcons also kept Jessica Drake to 4-of-17 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer entered the second quarter tied at 14-14 after a tightly contested first period. Pfeiffer did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 14 points close to the basket.
The Monarchs then took control in the second quarter and the Falcons entered haltime behind 27-20.
Methodist continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 33-20 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 33-26 with 5:37 to go in the third. Methodist countered and stretched its lead to 40-30 heading into the fourth. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 10 points in the paint.
Methodist kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 53-36 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Amanda Finch's three, to shrink the deficit to 53-43 with 2:32 to go in the contest. The Falcons were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 55-45. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring nine of its 15 total points.
