MIsenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 3, 2024) --Pfeiffer freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali posted a double-double, the second of her career, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, but the Pfeiffer women's basketball team fell to the Southern Virginia Knights 83-54 in a USA South home game on Wednesday evening at Merner Gym.
In addition to Cabiness-Ali's double-double, the Falcons (2-8, 1-4 USA South) were led by sophomore Hannah Isley, who totaled 15 points, and by junior Kenadie Hudler, who tacked on 12 points.
Cabiness-Ali pulled down six offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Pfeiffer, grabbing 12 boards and turning them into seven second chance points.
Pfeiffer would force 16 Southern Virginia turnovers turning those takeaways into 18 points.. Cabiness-Ali' also led the Falcons with four steals.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 26-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Falcons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 53-24 halftime deficit.
Pfeiffer's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Falcons faced a 66-34 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 10 points in the paint.
Pfeiffer kept the Knights from increasing their lead before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Kayla Soublet's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 68-45 with 6:14 to go in the contest. Southern Virginia responded and outscored the Falcons the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 83-54. Pfeiffer fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 20 points.
