Raleigh, N.C. (Jan. 6, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team held Meredith to just 40 percent shooting from the field, but fell 54-43 to the Angels on the road on Saturday afternoon
The Falcons (2-9, 1-5) had two players score in double figures, led by junior Kenadie Hudler, who had 12 points and two steals. Freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali added 10 points and eight rebounds while Miya Horton added six points and six steals.
The Pfeiffer defense held Meredith shooters to only 40 percent from the field, including and did not allow a three-pointer.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2-0, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 7:54 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Hudler, to take an 8-2 lead. The Falcons then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 12-11.
The Falcons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 22-15 halftime deficit.
Pfeiffer's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Falcons faced a 40-23 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring six of its eight points in the paint.
Pfeiffer came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 10-0 run to shrink the deficit to 40-33 with 6:12 to go in the contest. Meredith responded and outscored the Falcons the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 54-43. Pfeiffer took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint.
