Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 13, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench on the way to a 66-63 win against the Lynchburg Hornets at home in Merner Gym on Wednesday night.
Senior Daymon Beckwith led the Falcons (1-1) with 19 points. Senior teammate Daniel Fulp tacked on nine points and 14 rebounds and junior Sean Sucarichi chipped in as well with nine points off the bench.
Pfeiffer out-rebounded Lynchburg 41-39 in Wednesday's game, paced by Fulp's game-high 14 boards. The Falcons also pulled down 16 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.
The Pfeiffer defense was a problem for the Hornets as they forced 14 Lynchburg turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the offensive end of the floor. Senior Jaylen Hamilton led the way individually for the Falcons with a pair of steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 18-12, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 10:33 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Sucarichi, to take a 20-18 lead. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 34-33 advantage. Pfeiffer got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 15 of its 34 total points.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 50-44 with 12:28 to go in the contest. The Hornets narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still held on for the 66-63 win. Pfeiffer got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 32 total points.
