Volleyball Drops Two Matches at USA South Tri-Match

Buena Vista, Va. (Nov. 2, 2024) --The Pfeiffer volleyball team could not hang with a Southern Virginia Knights offense Saturday on the road losing to Southern Virginia in three sets (18-25, 21-25, 16-25) in the first match of a USA South tri-match at Knights Arena.

Madison Tate finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Falcons attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .263. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Gabby Edwards had 15 and Kylee Mayberry had 10.

» Kylee Mayberry had a team-high one ace in the loss.
» Madison Tate had a team-high seven kills for Pfeiffer.
» Pfeiffer got a team-high 15 digs from Gabby Edwards.
» Pfeiffer attackers were helped by a team-high 11 assists from Kylee Mayberry.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Falcons fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-18. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as 12 points as Southern Virginia never surrendered the lead in a set that was notted up zero times before the Knights took control.

SET 2 | A 25-21 set-two loss put Pfeiffer behind 2-0 in the match. The Falcons lost the first point and never took the lead before dropping the set.

SET 3 | Pfeiffer couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Falcons fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-16.


Match Two - Meredith def. Pfeiffer, 3-0

In the second match of the afternoon,  Pfeiffer could not stop a potent Angels offense,falling to Meredith in straight sets (20-25, 13-25, 10-25).

With the pair of setbacks, Pfeiffer's record now stands at 5-23 overall and 2-14 in USA South play.

Madison Tate finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Falcons offense against Meredith while finishing with a hitting percentage of .545. got 11 digs from Gabby Edwards to lead them defensively.

SET 1 | The Falcons fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-20. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as eight points as Meredith grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up six times before the Angels took control.

SET 2 | A 25-13 second-set loss put Pfeiffer in a 2-0 hole in the match. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as 12 points as Meredith grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up two times before the Angels took over the lead.

SET 3 | Pfeiffer couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Falcons fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before losing the set 25-10.

Next Match
Pfeiffer will return to The Village on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for their final home match of the season at 6:00 p.m. against Brevard College.
