No. 20 Maryville Drops Pfeiffer Men's Basketball

Hampden-Sydney, Va. (Nov. 23, 2024) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team dropped a 81-68 decision to the Maryville Fighting Scots at Hampden-Sydney, Va.on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (2-3) had four players score in double figures, led by senior Daymon Beckwith, who had 15 points, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Justin Gaten added 13 points off the bench and Alex Cunningham chipped in as well with 10 points.

Pfeiffer did a fantastic job disrupting Maryville (TN) shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Beckwith's two rejections led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

After falling behind 30-20, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 6:16 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 30-26. Maryville answered and added to its lead, leaving the Falcons down 41-36 entering halftime.

Maryville kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 43-36 advantage before Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Beckwith's three, to seize a 44-43 lead with 17:29 to go in the contest. Maryville re-asserted control, outscoring the Falcons 38-24 the rest of the way to hand Pfeiffer the 81-68 loss. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 32 points in the lane.

» Pfeiffer played solid perimeter defense, holding Maryville (TN) to 18 percent from three point land on 22 attempts.
» The Pfeiffer bench made an impact by scoring 22 points to its scoring output.
» The Falcons were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying five blocks as a team.
