Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 23, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball limited the visiting Greensboro College Pride to a 1-for-14 shooting performance from long range on the way to a 72-46 USA South win in Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (2-3, 1-0 USA South) had two players score in double figures, led by senior Alexis Bynum, who had a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists. Freshman Ava Hairston tacked on 10 points, five assists and four steals and fellow freshman Kendyll Moore added six points and 12 rebounds.
Pfeiffer utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 20 assists on 26 made field goals. Bynum's 11 assists, a career high, led the distribution list for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer's defense held Greensboro to only 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 7.1 percent from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 10-9 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run with 5:53 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from junior Hannah Isley, to increase the Falcon lead to 15-9. The Falcons then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-17.
Pfeiffer fought back to tie the game at 23-23 before going on a 10-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Hairston, to take a 33-23 lead. The Falcons kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 37-27 advantage heading into halftime. Pfeiffer dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 20 points close to the basket.
Pfeiffer continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a three from sophomore Peyton McPeters, to expand its lead further to 47-29 with 6:22 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Falcons added two points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 57-37 edge. Pfeiffer's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled six of the team's 20 third-quarter points.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Bynum's three, to grow the lead to 68-40 with 6:38 to go in the contest. The Pride narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 72-46 win. Pfeiffer fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 15 points.
