Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 8, 2024) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team got a 35-point performance from the bench, but fell 85-72 to the No.17 Guilford Quakers in the season opener on Friday at Merner Gym.
The Falcons (0-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Donte Forrester-Jhagroo, who had 19 points. Senior Daymon Beckwith added 14 points and four assists and junior Doug Smith helped out with 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals and three blocks.
Led by Smith's five offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards.
Pfeiffer came away with seven blocks on the night, led by Smith's three rejections.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer fell behind 47-37 heading into halftime and the visiting Quakers kept widening its lead in the second half, constructing an 82-63 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run that was finished off by Forrester-Jhagroo's layup, to trim the deficit to 82-68 with 1:12 to go but it was the closest Pfeiffer would get, falling 85-72.
