Pfeiffer Closes 2024 With 62-52 Road Win at Averett

Danville, Va. (Dec. 31, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team took control in the second half after being tied at halftime to close the 2024 calendar year with a 62-52 win at Averett University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons (4-4) had three players score in double figures, led by senior Daymon Beckwith, who had 18 points. Sean Sucarichi tacked on 13 points off the bench while teammate Alex Cunningham chipped in with 12 points.

Pfeiffer pulled down 44 rebounds in Tuesday's game compared to Averett's 30, led by junior Doug Smith's 10 boards. The Falcons also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 11 rebounds into nine second chance points.

Pfeiffer did a great job disrupting Averett shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Smith's five rejections led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

After falling behind 16-9, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 11:50 left in the first half to take a 17-16 lead. Averett then responded to tie things up at 31-31 heading into halftime. Pfeiffer got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 22 of its 31 points close to the basket.

Averett then snagged a 46-45 advantage before Pfeiffer responded by going on an 8-0 run to seize a 53-46 lead with 6:16 to go in the contest. The Falcons kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 62-52 win. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 31 points in the lane.

» Pfeiffer outscored Averett 31-21 in the second half after a halftime tie to pick up the victory.
» The Falcons held the Cougars to only 30 percent shooting from the field.
» The Pfeiffer bench made an impact by adding 32 points to its scoring output.
» Daymon Beckwith and Sean Sucarichi came off the bench to score 18 and 13 points, respectively.
» Pfeiffer had a 44-30 edge on the boards in the win.
