MISENHEIMER, NC (Jan. 7, 2025) --The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team got a 48-point showing from the bench on the way to a 91-73 USA South victory over the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops at home Tuesday.
The Falcons (5-4, 1-0) had four players score in double figures, led by senior Daymon Beckwith, who had 22 points. Junior Alex Cunningham added 15 points and Doug Smith chipped in as well with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Pfeiffer out-rebounded NCWU 48-37 in Tuesday's game, led by Smith's 12 boards. The Falcons also collected 11 offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points.
The Pfeiffer defense held N.C. Wesleyan shooters to a 39.2 percent clip from the field.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 16-14 advantage, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 13:09 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Beckwith, to increase its lead to 22-14. The Falcons then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 47-33 advantage. Pfeiffer got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 29 of its 47 total points.
Pfeiffer kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Beckwith's three, to grow the lead to 60-45 with 13:53 to go in the contest. The Falcons kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 91-73 win. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 44 points in the lane.
