Pfeiffer Women Drops 73-53 Decision to Greensboro

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 10, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team got a 19-point performance from the bench, but fell 73-53 to the Greensboro Pride at home Saturday.

The Falcons (6-16, 4-12) had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore Miya Horton, who had 16 points and two steals. Fellow sophomore Hannah Isley added 11 points and two steals while junior Alexis Bynum helped out with 11 points.

Freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali continued her strong play in the paint, pulling down a career-high 15 points and scoring 10 points to secure her fourth career double-double.

The Pfeiffer defense caused its share of problems in Saturday's game, forcing 19 Pride turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 16 points for the Falcons. Junior Kenadie Hudler led the way individually for the Falcons with four steals.

How It Happened

Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The Falcons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 36-18 halftime deficit.

Greensboro continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 54-24 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Bynum, to trim its deficit to 54-29 with 2:41 to go in the third. The Falcons continued to reduce the Greensboro lead, shrinking it to 57-35 by the end of the third quarter. Pfeiffer took advantage of six Greensboro turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.

Greensboro kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 67-44 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Horton's layup, to shrink the deficit to 67-50 with 3:06 to go in the contest. Greensboro responded and outscored the Falcons the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 73-53. Pfeiffer took advantage of four Greensboro turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
