MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 7, 2024) --Sophomore Hannah Isley hit a shot with 19 seconds remaining to put the Pfeiffer women's basketball team up for good in a 65-63 home nonconference win against Carolina University at Merner Gym on Wednesday evening..
The Falcons (6-14) had three players score in double figures, led by Kenadie Hudler, who had 14 points. Isley added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Alexis Bynum chipped in as well with 10 points, four assists and three steals. Isley's double-double is the sixth of her career.
Freshman Lola Cabiness-Ali pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Pfeiffer, grabbing 11 boards and turning them into 11 second chance points.
Pfeiffer forced 20 Bruin turnoversturning those takeaways into 23 points. Sophomore Miya Horton led the way individually for Pfeiffer with four steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-12, Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run with 5:25 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Horton, to take an 18-13 lead. The Falcons then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 20-18 advantage. Pfeiffer did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 20 points close to the basket.
rallied to take a 26-22 lead before Pfeiffer went on a 6-0 run starting at the 5:37 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Cabiness-Ali, to take a 28-26 lead. The then battled back to even it up at 32-32 heading into halftime. Pfeiffer dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 12 points close to the basket.
After intermission, snatched a 45-36 lead before Pfeiffer answered back by going on a 12-0 run, punctuated by a three from Bynum, to grab a 48-45 lead with zero seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Pfeiffer took advantage of five turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.
The Bruins proceeded to take a 63-60 lead before Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Isley's layup, to seize a 65-63 lead with 19 seconds to go.
