Men's Lacrosse Wins Over Piedmont, 11-8
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 23, 2024) – The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team dropped Piedmont University by an 11-8 score on an overcast Saturday afternoon in front of a large crowd of lacrosse alumni at Lefko-Mills Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a close game throughout, Pfeiffer broke a 4-4 tie in the middle stages of the second quarter with three straight scores to provide some separation.Â
Zach Gignac teamed with
Quinn Becraft at 4:44 of the second to give Pfeiffer the 5-4 lead. Less than two minutes later,
Tyler Finley scored an unassisted goal to give the Falcons the 6-4 lead. At 2:19,
Zach DeFazio cashed in on a player-advantage to boost t6he Pfeiffer lead to 7-4.
Piedmont was able to cut the lead to 7-5 at 1:42 of the quarter, providing the two-goal lead at halftime.
After the break,
Khyler Johnson scored at 7:36 on an assist from Finley to give the Falcons the three goal cushion.
Piedmont responded with back-to-back scores in the third quarter to pull to within one at 8-7. DeFazio scored once more at 1:46 to push the lead to 9-7, before Piedmont once again pulled to 9-8 with a score at 52 seconds.
In the fourth, Pfeiffer held the Lions scoreless and tacked on two more scores, the first from Becraft at 8:15 and the latter from
Jared Butler at 2:16, providing the 11-8 final.
Khyler Johnson finished with three goals while DeFazio also had three goals and an assists, finishing with four points. Butler also finished with four points by scoring twice and providing a pair of assists in the win.
Defensively, Russell Davis had a great outing, causing six Lion Turnovers while collecting four ground balls. Teammate Jeremiah Schenk led the way for Pfeiffer with five ground balls while adding three caused turnovers.

Oliver Buch made 11 stops on the afternoon while his Piedmont counterpart, Johnny Matrona made 22 saves,

The Falcons will continue USA South play on Saturday, March 30 with a game against Huntingdon College. Gametime is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and is part of Pfeiffer's annual Military Appreciation event in conjunction with the Pfeiffer softball program.
