MISENHEIMER, N.C. --The Pfeiffer Falcons put together a spirited comeback, scoring four runs over the eighth and ninth innings, but the late-game rally came up short in al 12-11 setback to the Muskingum Fighting Muskies on Monday at Joe Ferebee Field.
Sophomore pitcher Jake Blevins (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (4-4). Sophomore Sam Odum was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Falcons were led by freshman Greyson Webb, who went 1-for-4 on the day with, hitting his first career home run and collecting a pair of RBI. Sophomore Ryne Rodrigues also put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Joe Javier also contributed for Pfeiffer, hitting a double, drawing a walk and posting two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the third inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Rodrigues.
The Falcons deficit expanded to 7-4 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Pfeiffer picked up a run on Webb's leadoff home run off of Jaxon Rinkes, which tightened the Fighting Muskies lead to 7-5.
Muskingum built their lead to 10-5 before the Pfeiffer offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 10-7 in the seventh.
Pfeiffer kept the Fighting Muskies off the board before tying it up in the eighth. The three-run fram for the Falcons was puncuated by a two-RBI double from Javier. evening the score at 10-10.
Muskingum then broke up that tie and grabbed a 12-10 lead heading into the ninth, when the Falcons closed the gap to 12-11. Senior Robbie Brown came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
