FERRUM, Va. --Senior C.J. Acosta racked up four RBIs to help propel the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Ferrum Panthers 11-7 in a nonconference baseball game on Wednesday evening.
Fellow senior Jordan Byrd (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Pfeiffer (12-14). The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run without giving up a hit, allowing two walks and striking out three. The win is the first collegiate pitching win for Byrd. Sophomore Sam Odum also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
Acosta went 3-for-5 with a double in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Junior Josh Turner put together a standout performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks and an RBI. Senior Robbie Brown also contributed for Pfeiffer, as he hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got on the board immediately, as Pfeiffer's offense plated six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Acosta.
The Falcons then expanded on their advantage in the third inning after the Panthers cut it to 6-2. Turner came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the score to 7-2.
Ferrum narrowed Pfeiffer's lead to 7-3 before the Falcons stretched the advantage to 11-3 in the sixth inning. The Falcons bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Acosta. Ferrum put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Pfeiffer still coasted to the 11-7 win.
