Pfeiffer Baseball Advances in USA South Tournament

BREVARD, N.C. --Pfeiffer's Ben Barnes racked up four RBIs to help lead the Falcons past the Methodist Monarchs 12-9, eliminating the Monarchs on Friday in game four of bracket two of the USA South Tournament at Brevard College.  

Nate Callahan (4-2) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Pfeiffer (21-20). The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out four.

Barnes went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Wilson Lohrer furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a walk and an RBI. J. Javier also chipped in for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Zach Ferrell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board.

The Monarchs then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Falcons got back on the board in the fifth. Pfeiffer managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score level at 3-3.

Methodist busted up the tie and took a 6-3 lead heading into the sixth, when Pfeiffer grabbed the advantage at 9-6. The Falcons bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Javier and a two-run double from Barnes.

Pfeiffer held the Monarchs scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 12-6. Methodist put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Falcons still held on for the 12-9 win.

Game 3
#2 Brevard def. #6 Pfeiffer, 6-4

In game three of the USA South Brevard Bracket, the Pfeiffer Falcons put together a furious comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth inning, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 6-4 to the host Brevard Tornados Friday.

Jake Blevins (3-4) started and absorbed the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (20-20). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Z. Ferrell put Pfeiffer on the board with a leadoff home run off J. Thompson.

The Tornados then rallied to score six runs and take a 6-1 lead before the Falcons got back on the board in the ninth. which brought the score to 6-4 in favor of the Tornados. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
