Pfeiffer Men's Lacrosse Will Face Familiar Foe in Centre College in NCAA Tournament
Misenheimer, N.C. (May 5, 2024) – The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team, who won their second consecutive USA South championship on Saturday afternoon, learned their destination for the upcoming NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament as the NCAA released the tournament brackets on Sunday night.
The Falcons will be meeting a familiar foe, as they will return to Danville, Kentucky for an NCAA rematch with Centre College.
The Colonels and Falcons split a pair of meetings in the 2023 season, with Pfeiffer winning 14-13 in Misenheimer and Centre downing the Falcons 11-9 in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament in the Bluegrass State.
Centre won the 2024 SAA Tournament with a 10-9 win over Sewanee on April 28. The Colonels used a goal with 30 seconds remaining to break a 9-9 tie to take the SAA Title, their fourth league title and second-straight championship.
The Falcons and Colonels have three common opponents in the 2024 season, with each team playing Birmingham-Southern, Roanoke and Southern Virginia.
Pfeiffer opened the 2024 season with a 9-6 setback to Birmingham-Southern in Salisbury, N.C., while Centre downed the Panthers 14-11 on March 24 and then ended the Panther program on April 26 in a 16-7 win.
The Falcons dropped a 23-6 road game at Roanoke on Feb. 24 while the Colonels also fell to the Maroons in Salem, Va. by a 17-6 score.
Finally, Pfeiffer took a 16-15 league road win over Southern Virginia while Centre also defeated SVU in Buena Vista, Va. on Feb. 24 by an 18-9 score.
The Falcons enter the NCAA Tournament with an 11-6 overall record after winning the USA South Tournament 20-17 over Piedmont University on Saturday afternoon and also completed a perfect 8-0 mark in league play. Pfeiffer is also on a nine-game winning streak and has not lost since a last-second 10-9 home setback to Ohio Northern on March 13.
Centre, winners of their past eight games, have not lost since March 20, when they fell at Roanoke and finished their SAA league play with a 5-1 record, with their lone league loss coming in an 8-7 loss at Berry College in their conference opener on March 16.
The NCAA will release ticket information for the upcoming NCAA Tournament in the coming days.
