STAUNTON, VA. (Jan. 11, 2025) --The Pfeiffer men's basketball team shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, but fell to the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels 94-93 on the road on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (5-6, 1-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Daymon Beckwith, who had 23 points. Daniel Fulp tacked on 18 points and eight rebounds and Doug Smith chipped in as well with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Pfeiffer offense was very productive from three point land, making eight threes on 16 attempts. Beckwith was the most prolific shooter for the Falcons, draining three treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 54-40, Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run with 1:21 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Clayton Robinson, to narrow its deficit to 54-48, a score that would hold until halftime.
Mary Baldwin kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 82-70 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Beckwith's three, to shrink the deficit to 82-77 with 6:29 to go in the contest. The Falcons kept their comeback going, holding the lead with 02:44 left to play, but Mary Baldwin managed to hold on for the 94-93 win. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 45 points in the lane.
