Pfeiffer Baseball Falls to Berry and Adrian at LaGrange Classic

LAGRANGE, Ga. (Feb. 15, 2025) -- The Pfeiffer basetball team dropped a pair of games on day two of the LaGrange Classic, falling to Berry and No. 20 Adrian College.

Sophomore Ivan Delp (0-1) got the ball to start for Pfeiffer (0-2) and took the loss in the first game.

Offensively, the Falcons were led by senior Wilson Lohrer, who went 2-for-5 on the day with three RBI. Fellow senior C.J. Acosta put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and two walks. Freshman James Eason also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 6-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the second inning. Sophomore Hunter Huneycutt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board.

The Vikings expanded their lead to 11-1 before the Falcons offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the third. which tightened the Vikings lead to 11-4.

Berry expanded their lead to 13-4 before the Pfeiffer offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 13-7 in the fourth. The Falcons recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Lohrer.

The Vikings expanded their lead to 15-7 before the Pfeiffer offense got back in gear, cutting into that lead in the seventh. The Falcons scored two runs off of Berry pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double from Eason, bringing the score to 15-9 in favor of Berry. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES
» Every Falcons starter reached base safely in the loss.
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed three runs across.
» Huneycutt stole two bases in Saturday's game.

In game two, the Falcons had plenty of opportunities, but had a hard time cashing in, leaving 10 runners on base in a 20-5 defeat at the hands of the Adrian Bulldogs on Saturday night.

J.D. Basinger (0-1) got the ball to start for Pfeiffer (0-3) and took the loss.

At the plate, the Falcons were paced by Connor Welker, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI. Austin Wood finished with a walk and two RBI while C.J. Acosta also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting hit a double in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons were trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Pfeiffer got an RBI single from Welker, scoring Hayden Furr from third base.

The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Falcons offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Adrian built their lead to 20-4 before the Pfeiffer offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 20-5 in the seventh. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

The Falcons will be in action on Friday, Feb. 21 at 11:00 a.m. against Piedmont University at the D3 Showcase hosted by the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers at Atrium Health Ballpark in nearby Kannapolis, N.C.
