KANNAPOLIS, N.C. --Sophomore Ivan Delp racked up seven strikeouts and senior starter Thad Lewis added five more, but the Pfeiffer Falcons fell to the Piedmont Lions 6-2 on Friday at the D3 Showcase at the Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, N.C.
In addition to his seven strikeouts, Delp tossed 4.2 innings in relief, giving up two runs on four hits and walking one for Pfeiffer (0-4). Lewis' (0-1) five strikeouts came in addition to his 3.1 innings of four-run ball where he allowed two hits while walking five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Sophomore Hunter Huneycutt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer and get them on the board.
The Falcons lost the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the ninth trailing 6-1. Pfeiffer scored a run when senior Josh Turner drew a walk from freshman Layne Ayers that scored senior C.J. Acosta, which tightened the Lions lead to 6-2. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
