MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 18, 2025 -- The 18th-ranked Pfeiffer University softball team opened the 2025 season with a doubleheader sweep of Ferrum College on a sunny but cool afternoon at Jack Ingram Field in Misenheimer, N.C.
The Falcons took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 5-1 win.
Senior Emma Bullin (1-0) earned the pitching win as the right-hander went four shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. Senior Kenzi Lyall also made an impact in the circle for the Falcons, starting the ballgame and throwing three innings, giving up one run on three hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Offensively, the Falcons were led by senior Alyssa Broaddus, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and three RBI. Senior Emma Chopko furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Senior Gracie Griffin also chipped in for Pfeiffer, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Pfeiffer scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Broaddus.
The Panthers then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-1 until the Falcons expanded their advantage in the third. Freshman Anna Jordan came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the Falcons lead to 4-1.
Pfeiffer held Ferrum scoreless before expanding their lead to 5-1 the following inning. The Falcons scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Griffin. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Pfeiffer coasted to the win.

In game two freshman Peyton Lane (1-0) earned the win in her first collegiate start, as she pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on just one hit, while allowing one walk and striking out five. Freshman Reese Caranna also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Offensively, the Falcons were led by senior Alyssa Broaddus, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Emma Bullin furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Senior Gracie Griffin also helped out for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

The Falcons put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Pfeiffer scored twice, with one run coming across on Griffin's single.
The Falcons then held the Panthers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. which brought the Falcons lead to 5-0.
Ferrum narrowed Pfeiffer's lead to 5-2 before the Falcons stretched the advantage to 9-2 in the sixth inning. The Falcons bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of freshman Natalie Auman. The score remained 9-2 for the rest of the game, as Pfeiffer coasted to the win.
