Barrett Homers In Setback to Washington & Lee

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. --Freshman Levi Barrett recorded two extra base hits, including his first career home run in Pfeiffer's 6-2 loss to Washington & Lee at the D3 Showcase at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, N.C. on Sunday night.

J.D. Basinger (0-1) got the ball to start for Pfeiffer (0-6, ) and took the loss. Senior Nick Warrington was a bright spot for the Falcons, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Barrett's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Senior Josh Turner compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Junior Joe Javier also helped out for the Falcons, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Barrett put Pfeiffer on the board with a leadoff home run off senior Matt Fleming.

The Generals then scored three runs to retake their advantage heading into the eighth inning, when the Falcons responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Pfeiffer scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Turner, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Generals. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as Washington & Lee added two runs to their tally on the way to a 6-2 final.

GAME NOTES
» Pfeiffer's power output was led by Barrett, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the eighth, when it pushed one run across.
» Pfeiffer went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.
» Pfeiffer pitchers faced 35 Washington & Lee hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out seven.
» The Falcons drew four walks from Washington & Lee pitching.
» Barrett led the Falcons at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI.
» Washington & Lee was led offensively by junior Nick Lagges, who went 1-for-3 with a triple.
» Fleming led the Generals pitching staff, throwing five innings of one-run ball.
