NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (March 15, 2025) -- Pfeiffer University could not complete the comeback and fell to No. 7 Christopher Newport in a nonconference softball game on Saturday in Newport News, Va.
Senior Emma Bullin (6-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Pfeiffer (12-7). Freshman Reese Caranna was a bright spot out of the bullpen, throwing three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking four and striking out one.
At the plate, the Falcons were paced by senior Emma Chopko, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBI. Freshman Natalie Auman would have a standout moment, as she hit her first career home run in the seventh inning . Senior Gracie Griffin also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Pfeiffer got an RBI single from Griffin, scoring sophomore Ky Perdue from third base.
The Falcons kept the Captains off the board before narrowing the gap further in the sixth. Pfeiffer pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Chopko that scored junior Landry Stewart and Perdue, which tightened the Captains lead to 6-3.
Pfeiffer kept the Captains off the board before narrowing the gap to 6-4 in the seventh. The Falcons picked up a run on Auman's one-out solo home run off senior Kate Alger. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
