Falcons Sweep Elmira in Home DH

GAME 1 | No. 18 Pfeiffer 9, Elmira 0

MISENHEIMER, N.C. --Senior Kenzi Lyall was dealing on Tuesday afternoon, hurling a three-hit shutout to lead the No. 18 Pfeiffer Falcons over the Elmira Soaring Eagles 9-0.

Lyall (1-1) went the distance for Pfeiffer (7-2), giving up three hits, walking four and striking out eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from Lyall.

The Falcons then tacked on runs in the second inning when they scored six times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run double off the bat of Lyall.

GAME NOTES

» Lyall tossed a three-hit shutout for the Falcons.

GAME 2 | No. 18 Pfeiffer 8, Elmira 1

Pfeiffer received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the No. 18 Falcons put eight runs on the board and knock off the Elmira Soaring Eagles 8-1 in the second game of a Tuesday doubleheader.

Freshman Peyton Lane (3-0) got the win for Pfeiffer (8-2). The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out five. Senior Emma Bullin started the ballgame and went three shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out four.

Offensively, the Falcons were paced by junior Charly Cooper, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and two RBI. Sophomore Emily Dickerson put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Junior Landry Stewart also chipped in for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Pfeiffer got an RBI single from senior Kenzi Lyall, scoring senior Emma Chopko from third base.

The Falcons then held the Soaring Eagles scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Pfeiffer scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Dickerson, which brought the Falcons lead to 2-0.

Pfeiffer held Elmira scoreless before expanding their lead to 7-0 the following inning. The Falcons bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Cooper.

The Soaring Eagles gained ground, closing the gap to 7-1 until Pfeiffer added some insurance in the fifth. The Falcons scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Stewart, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 8-1. The score remained 8-1 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons coasted to the win.

Pfeiffer will return to play this upcoming Friday, March 7 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take part in the Eagles Elite Invitational.  The Falcons will take on host Emory at 10:00 a.m. and will follow with a 2:00 p.m. game against St. John Fisher
