Softball Wins Two in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA -- The Pfeiffer University softball team rolled past No. 25 St. John Fisher thanks to a masterful outing by senior Emma Bullin on Saturday morning at the Eagles Elite Invitational hosted by Emory University

Bull increased her season record to 5-2 after tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Pfeiffer Falcons past the Saint John Fisher Cardinals 8-0.

All told, Bulling tossed a complete game, giving up just two hits while walking none and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer got on the board thanks to K. Lyall's RBI double with one out.

The Falcons then tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fourth when they scored four times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run double off the bat of Lyall.

GAME NOTES

» Bullin tossed a two-hit shutout for the Falcons.
» A. Broaddus collected four hits on the day for Pfeiffer.
» The Falcons had both Broaddus and Lyall smack multiple extra-base hits in the ballgame.
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed four runs across.
» Pfeiffer took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.

GAME 2
In game two, Pfeiffer limited the host Emory Eagles to one run on Saturday, en route to the 2-1 victory.

Freshman Peyton Lane (5-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for the 17th-ranked Falcons . The right-hander went 5.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits. Senior Emma Bullin also made an impact in the circle for the Falcons, starting the ballgame and throwing 1.1 scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout, earning her third save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Pfeiffer plated two runs off of Emory pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of A. Broaddus. Emory put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Falcons still held on for the 2-1 win.

» Pfeiffer pitchers limited Emory to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.

» Emory was led offensively by E. Zerr, who went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Pfeiffer will return home on Wednesday, March 12 to host ODAC foe Guilford College in a doubleheader that starts at 2:00 p.m.
