Pfeiffer Men's Tennis Falls in USA South Semifinals to Methodist, 4-2

Rocky Mount, N.C. (April 25, 2025)– The Pfeiffer University men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to second-seeded Methodist University on Friday morning in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament hosted by N.C. Wesleyan University.

THE BASICS
Methodist opened play by winning two of the three doubles matches, taking the 1-0 lead.  Pfeiffer did manage to win the match at No. 1 with Mathius Dessureau and Benedikt Pfeiffer taking the 6-2 win.

In singles play, Pfeiffer got wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 matches.  Jayden Wellman took his match at No. 3 by a 6-4, 6-2 score while USA South Rookie of the Year Aissultan Mukhambetov won at No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-3 final.

Andres Valdez-Arze dropped a 6-7 (3-7), 3-6 match at No. 6 while Bogdan Stan's match at No. 5 was unfinished.

Methodist was able to clinch the team win by winning the No. 2 match.  The Monarchs got a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 win over Pfeiffer's Mathius Dessureau to advance to the USA South Championship match.

Pfeiffer completes the season with an overall record of 14-6, which is the best season in the Falcons' Division III era and the most wins since the 2017-18 season, when Pfeiffer finished with a 14-4 overall record
