Pfeiffer Baseball Splits DH at Greensboro

GAME 1 | Pfeiffer 11, Greensboro 8

GREENSBORO, N.C.(April 5, 2025) --C.J. Acosta collected three extra base hits to help lead the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Greensboro Pride 11-8 on Saturday in game one of a USA South doubleheader

Thad Lewis (4-2) got the win for Pfeiffer (8-19, 5-6). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up seven runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Reliever Sam Safrit also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.

Acosta's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-5 day, that included two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Hayden Furr put together a standout day as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and six RBI. Joe Javier also contributed for the Falcons, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while walking three times..

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Furr drove in two runs for Pfeiffer with a single, that scored H. Huneycutt and Javier.

The Pride failed to push any runs across before the Falcons offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Acosta came across to score the lone run of the inning for Pfeiffer, which brought the Falcons lead to 3-0.

Greensboro narrowed Pfeiffer's lead to 3-1 before the Falcons stretched the advantage to 6-1 in the third inning. The Falcons scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Acosta that scored Levi. Barrett and Furr.

The Pride gained ground, closing the gap to 6-4 until Pfeiffer added some insurance in the fifth. The Falcons scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Furr, bringing the Pfeiffer advantage to 10-4.

The Falcons kept Greensboro scoreless before expanding their lead to 11-4 the following inning. Pfeiffer scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Furr. Greensboro put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Falcons still held on for the 11-8 win.

GAME NOTES
» Pfeiffer got three-hit games from both Furr and Acosta.
» Pfeiffer got a great power hitting day from Acosta, who reached safely with three extra base hits.
» Furr and Acosta drove in at least four runs for Pfeiffer.

GAME 2 | Greensboro 12, Pfeiffer 10

In game two, Badin Gusa collected three hits, but the Pfeiffer Falcons fell to the Greensboro Pride 12-10 in the second game of the league doubleheader

Noah Cottone (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (9-19, 5-7) while Cayman Buck was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out three.

Of his three hits, Gusa had two doubles, a walk and an RBI to lead the Falcons. Hunter Huneycutt put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-6 with a home run and a pair of RBI.

C.J. Acosta also contributed for Pfeiffer, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a double and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Falcons first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up eight runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Acosta and a two-run single from Wilson Lohrer.

The Pride then rallied to score eight runs and take a 12-8 lead before the Falcons got back on the board in the eighth. Pfeiffer scored twice on Huneycutt's two-run homer, which brought the score to 12-10 in favor of the Pride. The Falcons were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
