GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 4, 2025) --The Pfeiffer Falcons took an 8-5 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 10-9 to the Greensboro Pride on Friday.
Junior Joe Javier (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Pfeiffer (8-18, 4-6). Junior Sam Safrit was a bright spot coming out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit.
At the plate, the Falcons were paced by sophomore Hunter Huneycutt, who went 5-for-5 on the day with a pair of home runs and two RBI. Senior C.J. Acosta furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and three RBI. Junior Hayden Furr also helped out for Pfeiffer, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Pfeiffer scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Acosta.
The Falcons then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Pride cut it to 3-2. Pfeiffer managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Falcons.
Greensboro fought back to tie the ballgame at five before Pfeiffer reclaimed an 8-5 advantage in the sixth inning. The Falcons scored three times, with a showing that included back-to-back homers from Furr and Acosta.
Pfeiffer lost the lead they built in the sixth, but got back on the board in the ninth trailing 9-8. The Falcons drove in a run on Huneycutt's leadoff home run off freshman N. Neubauer, tying the score at 9-9. Greensboro then scored one time in the bottom half of the ninth to break the tie and grab the 10-9 win.
