MISENHEIMER, N.C. (May 4, 2025) -- The No. 20 Pfeiffer University softball team downed Meredith 9-1 in five innings to take the USA South Tournament Bracket 1 on Sunday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. By virtue of the win, top-seeded Pfeiffer will host second-seed N.C. Wesleyan in the USA South Championship Series. The game was resumed after being halted on Saturday afternoon due to thunderstorms in the Misenheimer area.
Dates and times for the upcoming USA South Championship Series are to be determined, but will be posted on GoFalconSports.com as soon as they are finalized.
Senior pitcher Emma Bullin (27-4) got the win for Pfeiffer (33-7). The right-hander tossed five innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing three walks and striking out three Meredith batters
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless.
The Angels failed to push any runs across before the Falcons offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Pfeiffer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of senior Gracie Griffin, which brought the Falcons lead to 7-0.Â
Griffin would add a single in the fourth inning, joining former Falcon greats Vada Sherrill and Makenzie Pennell as the only players in program history with 200 career hits. Griffin passed Sherrill last week as the all-time doubles leader.
Meredith narrowed Pfeiffer's lead to 7-1 before the Falcons stretched the advantage to 9-1 in the fifth inning. The Falcons drove two runs across on a two-run double from junior Charly Cooper that brought home junior Micah Felts and junior Landry Stewart. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Pfeiffer coasted to the win.
