Brevard Tops Pfeiffer Women's Basketball

MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Analee Morris scored 20 points and Brevard used its speed and depth to overwhelm Pfeiffer University 87-41 in a USA South Conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at Merner Gym.

Pfeiffer (9-7, 7-3 USA South) struggled offensively throughout, shooting just 18.1% from the field (13 of 72) and never reaching double figures in any quarter. The Falcons were held to 21 points in the first half and trailed 45-21 at intermission.

Nyree Bell, Lola Cabaniss-Ali and Kaileigh Gunter each scored six points in the loss. The Falcons did find success on the offensive glass, pulling down 26 offensive rebounds and finishing with a 51-44 edge overall, but second-chance opportunities rarely turned into points.

Brevard (14-3, 9-1) opened the game with a 17-5 run behind Kayden Johnson and Olivia Miller, setting the tone with transition baskets and aggressive perimeter defense. Pfeiffer missed its first eight shots and fell behind by double digits less than five minutes in.

The Tornados continued to pull away in the second quarter, forcing turnovers on eight of Pfeiffer's possessions and converting them into fast-break points. Morris scored 11 points in the first half alone as Brevard built a 24-point cushion by halftime.

Pfeiffer opened the third quarter with renewed energy on the glass, recording six offensive rebounds in the first five minutes, but shot just 3 of 21 in the period as Brevard extended the margin to 60-28 after three.

In the final quarter, the Falcons received contributions from their bench, including a late 3-pointer from Peyton McPeters, but Brevard's depth and pace prevented any sustained run.

Brevard finished with five players in double figures and totaled 23 assists on 33 made field goals.
