MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Jan. 9, 2026) — Pfeiffer University used a balanced attack and a dominant second half to roll past Southern Virginia 89-63 in USA South Conference play on Friday night at Merner Gym.
The Falcons (5-8, 1-2 USA South) led 43-31 at halftime and pulled away with 46 points in the second half, shooting 49.3% from the field and knocking down 11 three-pointers. Pfeiffer also controlled the glass, outrebounding Southern Virginia 42-33 and scoring 44 points in the paint.
Zach Sloan paced Pfeiffer with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including five 3-pointers.
Doug Smith added 14 points, seven rebounds and five blocks, while
Justin Gaten chipped in 15 points and five assists.
Sean Sucarichi scored 12 points, and the Falcons' bench contributed 23 points.
Southern Virginia (6-7, 2-1) was led by Tillman Johnson and Ashton Davis, who each scored 13 points. Johnson also had four rebounds, while Davis grabbed five boards. The Knights shot 40% from the floor but committed 17 turnovers, leading to 14 Pfeiffer points.
Pfeiffer forced 12 steals and turned 19 offensive rebounds into 27 second-chance points. The Falcons never trailed and held Southern Virginia to just one made 3-pointer in the second half.
The Falcons will have a quick turnaround, as they will welcome Mary Baldwin to Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Pfeiffer women's game against Mary Baldwin.
