MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Oct 3, 2026) – Pfeiffer University battled back to claim the third set but could not overcome visiting Meredith as the Falcons fell 3-1 in a USA South volleyball match Saturday at Merner Gym. Meredith won by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-17.
Pfeiffer (2-12, 1-6 USA South) showed resilience throughout the match, rallying from an early deficit in the third set before edging the Avenging Angels 25-23 to extend the contest. The Falcons trailed 21-21 late in the set before scoring four of the final six points, with
Leigan Lusk and
Gabi Gama delivering key kills during the closing stretch.
Anasty Faavesi led the Falcons' offense with 10 kills and added an ace, while
Jada Thomas contributed seven kills and two total blocks. Lusk finished with six kills, a team-high three total blocks and a .294 hitting percentage.
Isabelle Conradie added five kills, two block assists and a service ace.
Setter
Karmen Rion directed the offense with 18 assists and a match-high four service aces, while
Kelsey Hussey added 14 assists. Defensively, libero
Molly Wright paced Pfeiffer with 22 digs.
The Falcons were strong from the service line, recording 10 aces as a team, including four from Rion and two from Gama. Pfeiffer also held a 6-3 advantage in total blocks.
After a closely contested opening set, Meredith (14-3, 5-2 USA South) won the second frame and appeared poised for a sweep before Pfeiffer's third-set comeback. The Avenging Angels responded by racing to a 10-0 lead in the fourth set and maintained control the rest of the way.
Caitlyn Russell led Meredith with 16 kills, while Kaylie Parker added nine kills on a .643 hitting percentage. Scarlet Griffin recorded 25 assists in the victory.
Meredith finished with a .228 team hitting percentage and 54 kills, while Pfeiffer totaled 37 kills, 53 digs and 10 service aces.
