Late Surge Falls Short as Women's Lacrosse Falls to SVU, 10-8

Southern Virginia outlasts Pfeiffer 10–8 despite late Falcon surge

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (March 11, 2026) — Pfeiffer University mounted a spirited fourth-quarter push but couldn't erase an early deficit, falling 10–8 to Southern Virginia on a warm and windy Wednesday afternoon at Lefko-Mills Field.

The Falcons (7-2, 1-1 USA South) trailed 9–5 entering the final period before freshman Quinn Branca sparked a rally with a goal just 54 seconds into the quarter. Senior Analise Robinson added her team-high third goal at the 13:08 mark, pulling Pfeiffer within two. Branca struck again with 6:06 remaining, trimming the margin to 9–8 and sending the home sideline into full voice.

Pfeiffer's comeback bid ultimately fell short when SVU's Ricky Richards converted a free-position shot with 3:53 to play, pushing the Knights' lead back to two and ending the scoring.

Robinson led all Pfeiffer scorers with three goals, continuing her strong veteran presence in the midfield. Branca added three goals of her own — all at critical junctures — while freshman Keiri Velasquez and senior Victoria Howard each tallied once. Howard's goal came in the third quarter off a setup from Skyla Jo Charette, who also scored late in the second.

Freshman goalkeeper Clara Smith battled through a high-volume SVU attack, collecting eight saves against 24 shots on goal while facing nine different scorers. Pfeiffer's defense generated key turnovers throughout the contest, including standout caused turnovers from Rylee Honeycutt and Emma LaFave, which helped fuel multiple transition opportunities.

After an even 1–1 first quarter, the second period proved costly for the Falcons. Southern Virginia scored four straight to lead 5–1 before Pfeiffer answered with power-play and even-strength goals from Robinson and Charette to stay within striking distance at halftime. SVU extended its lead to 9–5 after three.

Although Pfeiffer generated 25 total shots — nearly matching SVU's 24 — late misses and strong goalkeeping on the Knights' side prevented the Falcons from completing the comeback.

The Falcons will return to play on Saturday, March 14 with a USA South road game at Piedmont University at 11:00 a.m.
