MISENHEIMER, N.C.(March 4, 2026) — Pfeiffer powered to a doubleheader softball sweep of Averett on a warm Wednesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field, taking game one, 11-3, and game two, 6-1, behind explosive innings at the plate and strong pitching in both contests.
Game 1: Pfeiffer 11, Averett 3 (5 inn.)
Pfeiffer broke open a tight game with a seven-run third inning, turning a 1–0 deficit into a commanding lead. The Falcons racked up 12 hits, scoring in bunches during both the third and fourth innings.
Freshman
Heather Vaughn led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, including a pair of key run-scoring hits during the Falcons' big third.
E.A. Nance added a two-run homer, part of a three-RBI performance that helped bury the Cougars.
Pfeiffer's lineup featured production throughout: Bulla, Cooper, Perdue and Piper all recorded RBIs as the Falcons scored 11 runs in just four innings at the plate.
On the mound, freshman
Abigail Bowman earned the win, allowing just one earned run over three innings, while
Peyton Lane and
Reese Caranna handled late relief. Averett (7–3) managed eight hits, but Pfeiffer forced key outs to strand six runners.
Game 2: Pfeiffer 6, Averett 1
Game two tilted early when Pfeiffer struck for
four runs in the second inning, capitalizing on four hits, a walk and an Averett defensive miscue. The Falcons added two more in the sixth to seal the sweep.
Senior
Emily Dickerson delivered the biggest swing of the game with a two-run home run, part of her 2-for-3, two-RBI effort. Freshman
Heather Vaughn—who had starred in game one—added another three RBIs in the nightcap, finishing with six RBI combined across both games.
Charly Cooper and
Mollie Bulla contributed timely hits as Pfeiffer's offense matched its earlier efficiency.
Bulla dominated in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just one unearned run and scattering six hits without issuing a walk. She struck out one and needed only 53 pitches to secure the win. Lysohir closed the final two outs.
Averett's lone run came in the sixth on a pair of singles, but the Cougars could not break through against a locked-in Bulla.
