Pfeiffer Softball Caps Regular Season With DH Road Sweep at Brevard
BREVARD, N.C. — Pfeiffer University put together a dominant all-around performance on Friday afternoon, sweeping a USA South Conference softball doubleheader at Brevard College with a 9–0 shutout in game one and an 11–1 run-rule victory in game two at BC Softball Field in the regular season finale
The Falcons combined for 20 runs on 30 hits, stole 12 bases, and allowed just one total run on the day to improve to 32–8 overall and 17–1 in conference play.
Game 1 – Pfeiffer 9, Brevard 0 (6 innings)
Pfeiffer wasted little time setting the tone in the opener, scoring three times in the first inning and never looking back in a six-inning shutout victory.
The Falcons pounded out 15 hits and showcased aggressive baserunning, stealing five bases while capitalizing on Brevard miscues.
Kirstyn Herman led the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 outing, blasting a solo home run and driving in two runs.
Heather Vaughn went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while
Mollie Bulla and
Brooke Piper each added multi-hit performances and doubles.
In the circle,
Abigail Bowman was dominant, tossing five hitless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.
Reese Caranna followed with a scoreless frame to complete Pfeiffer's combined no-hitter, limiting Brevard to three walks in the game.
Pfeiffer scored in five of the six innings, including a three-run sixth to put the run-rule into effect.
Game 2 – Pfeiffer 11, Brevard 1 (5 innings)
The second game followed a similar script as Pfeiffer again scored early and often, plating runs in every inning en route to an 11–1 win in five innings.
Landry Stewart sparked the offense from the top of the lineup, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and three runs scored.
Heather Vaughn continued her big day with a 3-for-3 performance that included a triple, a double, and two RBIs.
Brooke Piper delivered the biggest swing of the game with a three-run home run, while
Natalie Auman,
Mollie Bulla, and
Kirstyn Herman each drove in runs.
Pfeiffer again pressured Brevard's defense, swiping seven more bases and forcing three errors that led to unearned runs.
Bowman picked up her second win of the day, working four innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three. Brevard's lone run came in the fifth inning before Pfeiffer closed the game early under the run-rule.
With the regular season complete, Pfeiffer captured their fourth straight USA South regular season title and will carry the No.1 seed in the upcoming USA South Tournament.
The Falcons will host bracket one of the tournament at Jack Ingram Field, which will get underway on Thursday, April 30.
Times and opponents will be announced by the USA South following the completion of the regular season.
