MISENHEIMER, N.C. (May 8, 2026) - The 2026 USA South Baseball Tournament best-of-three championship series is through its first game on the campus of Pfeiffer University as the second-seeded Falcons earned a 17-7, eight-inning, win over fifth-seeded William Peace to take a one-game lead at Joe Ferebee Field.
It was William Peace who struck first in its opening at-bats with three runs just to have that output answered with three Pfeiffer tallies in its first licks. The Falcons took its first lead of the game thanks to single runs in both the second and third innings. The Pacers battled back and took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a grand slam home run from Kahner Moss. Pfeiffer once again matched its opponents by scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame thanks in part to a three-run home run by Ben Mecimore. The scoring was relatively quieted until the bottom of the seventh inning with the Falcons put up six runs which help put the game out of reach.
Pfeiffer's Josh Little got the win out of the bullpen for the Falcons as he went two and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts. Skylar Faircloth came on in the seventh inning, got out of a based loaded jam, and earned his first save of the season.
The second and, if necessary, third games will again take place at Pfeiffer tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, with the Falcons needing one victory to claim the program's first USA South tournament title. William Peace will need two wins to grab their program's first championship. The first game will begin at 3:00pm with the second game, if necessary, taking place 45 minutes following the conclusion.
