Pfeiffer Sweeps Mary Baldwin for USA South Victory
STAUNTON, Va. (Sept. 26, 2026) — Pfeiffer put together one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday afternoon, rolling past Mary Baldwin in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14, 25-10, in a USA South Conference volleyball match at the Physical Activity Center.
The Falcons improved to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in USA South play after recording their first conference victory of the season. Mary Baldwin fell to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in league action.
After edging the Fighting Squirrels in a competitive opening set, Pfeiffer took control of the match by dominating the final two frames. The Falcons hit .217 as a team with 37 kills, 33 assists, 63 digs and 10 service aces while limiting Mary Baldwin to a negative attacking percentage (-.010).
Gabi Gama led the Falcons offensively with 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double while adding two service aces and a .318 hitting percentage.
Leigan Lusk was equally efficient, totaling nine kills while hitting .417 and contributing two solo blocks.
Jada Thomas added eight kills and a block, while
Emma Line chipped in seven kills.
Setter
Karmen Rion directed the offense with 18 assists, eight digs and three service aces.
Kelsey Hussey added 11 assists, giving Pfeiffer 29 assists from its primary setting tandem.
Defensively, the Falcons were led by Gama's 13 digs, while
Molly Wright finished with 11 digs and Rion added eight. Pfeiffer's back row helped hold the Fighting Squirrels to just 19 kills across the three-set match.
The opening set featured 10 ties and three lead changes before Pfeiffer used a late surge to pull away for a 25-22 victory. The Falcons carried that momentum into the second set, racing to a 25-14 win behind five service aces. Pfeiffer then closed the match in dominant fashion, building an early lead in the third set and cruising to a 25-10 victory to complete the sweep.
For Mary Baldwin, Delaney Bolbach, Gabrielle Culanding and Morgan Flaherty each finished with five kills, while setter Hayley DeShazo recorded 16 assists and nine digs.
Pfeiffer finished with advantages in kills (37-19), assists (33-18), digs (63-48) and service aces (10-0) en route to the straight-set conference victory.
