| Misenheimer, NC----Pfeiffer women’s basketball team lost 78-76 to Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action Monday night. Pfeiffer falls to 6-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference. Mount Olive is now 11-8 and 9-3. Mount Olive jumped out early and started the game on a 12-0 run. Pfeiffer fought back and and cut the lead to 8 at 16-8. Ashelle Athill had two straight steals and lay-ups to spark a 17-0 Falcon run as Pfeiffer held the Trojans scoreless for nearly seven minutes and took a 25-19 advantage. Octavia Trammell hit a three-pointer to give Pfeiffer a double digit lead at 42-32 with only 1:25 to go. At halftime the Falcons led 45-36. All nine Falcon players scored in the first half. Pfeiffer outshot Mount Olive 51%-34% from the floor in the first half. Pfeiffer continued their good play at the start of the second half. Shanee’ Purnell hit a three-pointer at the 16:34 mark to give Pfeiffer a 55-40 lead. Mount Olive came back but a Purnell lay-up put the Falcon lead back up to ten, at 66-56, with 12:10 left. Pfeiffer kept the lead around ten points for the next six minutes. Mount Olive went on an 8-0 run but Octavia Trammell hit a lay-up to give Pfeiffer a 72-68 lead with 4:48 to go. Mount Olive kept closing in and tied the game with 49 seconds left. Lakeisha Moore hit a baseline jumper with three seconds left to give the Trojans a 78-76 lead. A last second shot by Pfeiffer came up just short and the Trojans won the game 78-76. Shanee' Purnell led Pfeiffer with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Lakeisha Moore led the Trojans with 30 points. Pfeiffer will return to action Thursday when they host Limestone at 5:30 pm. |
