BREVARD, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's soccer (13-4) team tied the all-time record for most wins in a season with a 3-0 blanking of Brevard (4-12-1) on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons 13 wins pull them into a six way tie for first all-time, which was accomplished most recently in 2009. Pfeiffer still has one regular season match and the postseason to break the record. The shutout was Pfeiffer's eighth on the season, which also ties a school record.
Nathan Regis, who entered the week ranked seventh in the nation in goals scored, added two more to his season tally and Niko Andrade added his third of the season. Regis now has scored five goals in his last three matches and has 15 strikes on the season.
"It was a very good and comfortable win," said Head Coach Bob Reasso. "We played well all game long; it was a great overall team effort."
Andrade opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a free kick that beat the keeper to the far post. In Pfeiffer's most recent 2-0 win over Emmanuel, Andrade accounted for both of the Falcons goals and he continued his scoring streak today. 17 seconds later, Regis took a feed from Jaime Siaj and put his shot in the bottom right corner of the net. The half would end with Pfeiffer holding a 2-0 lead and a 10-4 advantage in shots.
Regis iced the match with his goal in the 51st minute as Paco Cortez and Mateo Garces-Yepes were credited with the assist.
Pfeiffer dominated play all evening and held a 24-8 advantage in shots. Tomaso Banfi made his Pfeiffer debut and posted a shutout while making three saves.
Pfeiffer can stand alone in the record books if they defeat Belmont Abbey on Friday. The match is set for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
