Siaj's OT Winner Sends Falcons to National Championship

Box Score

PENSICOLA, FL- The No.  1 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (24-0) continued their perfect season with a double overtime 2-1 thrilling win over Charleston (WV) on Thursday evening. The Falcons will advance to their first National Championship in school history. Jaime Siaj scored his 16th goal of the season in the 104th minute, punching the Falcons ticket to play in the national title.

"We fought to the end," said Siaj. "I was in the right spot at the right time. Any other teammate could have been there to be the one to win it for us."

The Falcons struck first when the Southeast Regional Player of the year Nathan Regis recorded his 30th goal of the season at the 30 minute mark, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Pfeiffer held the lead until the 88 minute mark when Charleston's Will Roberts scored his 21st goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1 and forcing overtime.

In the first overtime, the Golden Eagles had a chance on a give-and-go, but the shot by Roberts flew wide. The two teams headed into the second overtime setting the stage for Siaj. In the 104th minute Santi Moar was able to beat his defender and send a cross just out of the reach of Regis, but Siaj followed it up and found the back of the net.

Tomas Correa continues his perfect season, with another brilliant performance recording nine saves. Charleston outshot the Falcons 20-10. However, Pfeiffer was able to take better advantage of their opportunities scoring on two of those 10 shots.

"First I want to congratulate an absolutely fantastic Charleston team," said head coach Bob Reasso. "I thought that on the whole they were the better team today. They're a veteran team, and we're not; we have no seniors. I thought they did a great job of controlling possession. The one thing that we have in our program is we have goal scorers and we have heart. We found a way to win tonight."

The Falcons will play Cal Poly Pamona (17-2-3) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the National Championship. The Broncos won the second semifinal contest over Rockhurst by a score of 2-1.
