MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer softball team (2-2) dropped a pair of games to Lenoir-Rhyne (2-0) on Wednesday. The Falcons lost the first game despite hitting two home runs and having eight hits as a team in a 5-2 loss. In the second game the Bears hit three home runs and Brandi Hole threw a three hit shutout in a 5-0 Lenoir-Rhyne win.
In game one, Julie Bullington got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning with a solo blast. It was Bullington's second home run in three games and gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Bears took the lead in the fifth with a two run inning, which included a triple and a single. Lenoir-Rhyne added two insurance runs in the sixth following a Brittany Coursen 2-run homer. In the home half of the sixth a two run big fly by Corinne Auger pulled Pfeiffer within one run 5-4. However, another Bears home run in the seventh put the game out of reach for the Falcons.
Sydney Poole pitched 4.1 innings allowing only one earned run and didn't allow a run in the first four innings. Pfeiffer had three girls with two hits in game one. Sadie Saine was 2-for-4 including a double. Auger had a single and a home run to go with her team-high two RBI. Bullington followed up her long ball with a single to right.
Pfeiffer had trouble putting anything together in the second game registering only three hits. Two of the hits were by Lindsey Russell and the third by Jessica Jackson. The bottom of the first was the biggest threat for the Falcons following a walk and an error on Lenoir-Rhyne the Falcons had runners on first and second. However, they were unable to push the run across. The Falcons would only get a runner to second base one other time throughout the game. The Bears benefited from the long ball in the hitting three home runs en route to the 5-0 victory. Hole walked only one batter while striking out seven in her seven innings of work.
Pfeiffer travels to Pembroke, NC this weekend for the UNC-Pembroke invitational. The Falcons first game will be a rematch with Concord. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
